Should I choose a Mannequin or a Model?
February 10, 2022

In a world where ‘perfection’ plays a crucial role in everyday life, who wouldn’t want to be able to be represented by a perfect-looking model? But nowadays, the word mannequin has taken on a new meaning. Thanks to technology and society’s hunger for change, the word “mannequin” is no longer an outdated term that only refers to those clothes models that stand still in department stores. Choosing a mannequin can be an intimidating task for any retailer. The traditional top-heavy, thin figure may make some customers feel out of place or almost embarrassed to be seen in their store. Retailers should consider the advantages of using a mannequin versus a model. Unlike models, who are typically hired for one job, mannequins are usually stationary and remain in your store all day long. This can help prevent theft since they cannot leave with your merchandise.

Mannequin versus Model

The word “mannequin” is typically used to describe a model that is not moving. The term “model” is generally used to describe someone displaying or demonstrating something, such as clothing for sale in a store window. Mannequins may also be referred to as “window displays.”

Stores often hire models to display products on shelves or windows. However, they will normally work only during business hours when customers are present. If you know what type of product would look good at your shop, consider hiring a mannequin to demonstrate it to potential buyers. You could even hire several models if the item sells well enough.

What are the pros and cons to each?

What are the pros of mannequins?

Mannequins are not alive, and they can’t feel anything. They can’t feel the clothes you put on them or the wind blowing against them. They don’t enjoy the sun or rain, they don’t get hungry or thirsty, they don’t have to go to the bathroom, and they never blink. They are often a one cost expense, and they don’t wear out your products, so you need to sell them secondhand (or used)

What are the cons of mannequins?

Mannequins are often used in stores and window displays to showcase clothing. However, they can be expensive and time-consuming to replace if damaged.

What are the pros of using a model?

Models are used in fashion for various reasons. One of the main reasons is that they help create a sense of aspiration. When customers see models wearing clothing, they want to wear that clothing themselves. It also helps show how an item will look on someone else in real life.

What are the cons of using a model?

Models are often not representative of the average person. For example, models are usually tall and thin, not the average body type. The use of models can also give people unrealistic expectations about what they should look like.

In conclusion, a mannequin can be a great addition to any retail shop. Not only does it offer the customer a visual of the product, but it also will help create an environment that is similar to what they might see in a retail store
